After letting a victory slip through their fingers against Massy (29-29), Cavigal managed to bounce back by securing a home win against Valence with a score of 30 to 27. It was the last home game of the year for the team from Nice in 2020 at the Pasteur hall. Hopefully, in January, the red and black team will be able to welcome the public again.
Nice learned from their mistakes
Since the beginning of the season, if there is one recurring mistake that appears in all the defeats and draws, it is the ability to hold on during the last quarter of the game. The most striking example is the last match against Massy. Within 10 minutes, the red and black team squandered a substantial lead of 5 goals.
Last night, the difference was made by the shooting efficiency of the Nice team. With a very good 64%, Valence could not make the difference. Right back Alexis Bon once again showcased his long-range power with unstoppable shots. He was perfectly supported by captain Joan Boada and his seven goals at 88%. Additionally, a very good Gretar Gudjonnson frustrated his opponents with 14 saves.
The good move
After hovering at the bottom of the standings, the Nice team has put together a series of good or even very good performances over the past month. Currently 8th in the championship, Asier Antonioโs men are navigating a middle ground. Depending on the current momentum, they could either fall heavily or stay afloat. This 2020-2021 season is living up to all its promises with contests at every level. We are almost at mid-season, which might seem normal. But when you compare the point gaps with those of previous years, you see that this in-between position could allow the Nice club to move up a notch. Being 5 points away from 5th place Massy, anything is still possible. After the hard-fought draw against these same opponents, the team from the Cรดte d’Azur has the opportunity and the squad to aim for this ambition. Their last match before the winter break will be played on Friday, December 18th, against Billiรจre, 10th with six points.
You can watch this 13th day of the Proligue on France 3 Nouvelle Aquitaine and on the Facebook page of the Billiรจre club.
