The Nice Jazz Festival, the first festival created in France in 1948, enjoys a true international reputation. After a few years of less effective management, it became crucial to implement a revival strategy, particularly through high-quality programming, the selection of an artistic director, and the designation of a new venue to benefit the show and the festival’s renown, which will be managed by the City of Nice.
Harry Lapp was born on July 29, 1947, in Strasbourg. Trained as a lawyer, he organized his first shows in 1970 with the Law Students Association, of which he was the President. His beginnings in the jazz world were alongside Norman Granz and George Wein, the two most important American tour producers.
In 1975, he founded Harry Lapp Organization, a company producing shows and tours in variety entertainment, jazz, rock, dance, theater, and classical music concerts. He was among the first French producers to present major international pop groups, including U2’s first tour in France in 1983. He was the one who launched Renaud, Indochine, Francis Cabrel, and Murray Head.
