Heat wave in the Alpes-Maritimes: orange alert maintained until August 12

Orange heatwave alert remains in effect in the Alpes-Maritimes until Wednesday, August 12. Temperatures reaching 36°C are expected in several sectors of the department. An extension until the end of the week is being considered.

Heat persists in the Alpes-Maritimes. Météo-France is maintaining the department on orange heatwave alert until Wednesday, August 12. An extension of the alert until the end of the week is also being considered.

Maximum temperatures should reach 32 to 35°C on the coast and in the high valleys. Peaks of 36°C are expected locally in the areas of Grasse, Carros, Puget-Théniers and Lantosque.

Recommendations in the Alpes-Maritimes

Heat poses an increased risk for elderly people, people with chronic illnesses or mental health disorders, people taking regular medication, and isolated individuals. Particular vigilance also concerns children.

Athletes and people working outdoors must also remain alert to dehydration and heat stroke. Symptoms to watch for include a temperature above 40°C, hot, red and dry skin, headaches, nausea, drowsiness, intense thirst, confusion, convulsions or loss of consciousness.

The authorities recommend drinking water several times a day and continuing to eat normally. The body can be cooled several times during the day with a spray bottle, a washcloth or lukewarm showers and baths. Outings during the hottest hours should be avoided. If going out, wearing a hat and light clothing is advised.

Physical and sporting activities should also be limited. During the day, shutters, curtains and windows can remain closed. Ventilation is recommended at night. Elderly people, those suffering from chronic illnesses or isolated individuals should receive special attention from those around them.
