On Friday, July 20th, the world’s best athletes will meet in Monaco for the Samsung Diamond League Herculis meeting. This is the final stage before heading to London for the Olympic Games.
To start, the two American 4x100m teams come in full force to test themselves one last time before the Olympics, and are expected to present on the track of Louis II Stadium Tyson GAY, Justin GATLIN, and among the women Carmelita JETER and Allyson FELIX.
In the 400m, it will be almost like an Olympic final with World Champion Kirani JAMES, Olympic Champion and world leader LaShawn MERRITT, and the third from Daegu, Kevin BORLEE, along with his brother Jonathan BORLEE. Also competing will be Dominican Luguelin SANTOS, who just won the World Junior Championships in Barcelona, and European champion Pawel MASLAK.
In the 3000m Steeplechase, Paul KOECH will race against the clock, perhaps to set a new meeting record (7:53.64)? There might also be a surprise from the world junior champion Conseslus KIPRUTO, who just ran 8:06 in his victory in Barcelona.
The world’s best female discus throwers will gather. Athletes to watch include 2012 European champion Sandra PERKOVIC, 2008 Olympic Champion Stephanie Brown Trafton, and German Nadine MULLER.
In men’s high jump, world champion Jesse WILLIAMS will face European champion Robbie GRABARZ, but American university champion Eryk KYNARD will be very motivated for his first meeting in the Samsung Diamond League.
Australian Mitchell WATT is the favorite for the men’s long jump after his victory this weekend in London. However, European champion Sebastian BAYER, American champion Marquise GOODWIN, and Briton Chris TOMLINSON will be ready in Monaco.
