Last night, Wednesday, January 12, around 7:30 PM, Place Garibaldi was plunged into darkness for several hours. Here’s why.
Last night, 5,000 households were plunged into darkness at Place Garibaldi and two restaurants had to be evacuated as they were starting their evening service.
Black smoke was coming out of a manhole. It was actually a fire in a public electricity distribution substation that caused the power outage.
Enedis agents intervened to cut the power, and firefighters set up a safety perimeter starting at 7:30 PM. By 9:30 PM, they were still on site, along with the municipal and national police as well as Enedis teams.
The fire was brought under control and out of the 5,000 households without power, 4,000 were able to get it back by mid-evening. For the others, it took until nearly 2 AM.
The incident did not result in any casualties.
