The Espace Magnan offers a varied and affordable cultural and artistic program starting in the fall in Nice. Theater, dance, cinema, puppetry, and concerts will pace the 2023/2024 season.
“Prepare to be transported into a world where the art of dance, theater, puppetry, and music come together to create captivating and poetic performances,” writes Alexandre Vandekerkhove, director of Espace Magnan and head of the Live Shows program. The latter announces that Espace Magnan “is once again committed to creation by hosting local artists in residency.”
Dance will be particularly highlighted this year in the cultural and sports center of Nice. Four events are dedicated to it. “Renowned companies will present choreographies as varied as they are dazzling. From performances imbued with grace and elegance to bold contemporary creations pushing the boundaries of movement, each show will offer a unique sensory journey,” shares the director.
Pascal Renault and Jeff Bizieau, co-directors of the Sixièmétage company, are the sponsors of the 2023/2024 season. Their ambition: “to enhance the visibility of choreographic creation in our region.” They will open the season on September 22 at 6:30 PM with dance performances. The double bassist Jean-Christophe Bournine, aka Merakhaazan, will also liven up this evening, which is free of charge upon reservation.
Indian Festival and Olympic Games, the new features of the season
The theater season includes about ten events ranging from plays for all audiences, and young audiences, to the 15th edition of the Women on Stage Festival. A brand-new event is making its debut. Titled Happy Inde, it is a three-day festival dedicated to Indian culture organized by the Lez’Arts Indiens Company. Film debates, workshops, music, a photo exhibition, and a children’s show are on the agenda.
In terms of cinema, the new feature of the season is the event titled “Sports on Screen”. To coincide with the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, film screenings, exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and activities are scheduled from January 25 to 28. Fans of the 7th art can also look forward to the 38th edition of the Italian Cinema Days from March 16 to 30, while the “Magical Screens” festival returns for an 8th edition for the little ones.
In addition to the 7th art and live performances, the multicultural center in Nice will offer a series of pictorial and photographic exhibitions. Espace Magnan will host artworks by Ixe, featuring nomadic painting and slow painting, from September 18 to 30. The Photon Collective will exhibit from November 6 to 24 and from May 6 to 31, notably for a photographic partnership with students from J-H Fabre College.
