The announcement came this week: the artist chosen to create the work in memory of the victims of July 14 is the sculptor Jean-Marie Fondacaro.
Responding to the wishes of the three memorial associations, Christian Estrosi had committed to leaving a lasting mark of this terrible attack: “a new step on our path to resilience that we have been attempting to follow since this tragedy and our duty to remember.” he said with emotion during the conference organized to present the model of the sculpture selected by the ad hoc commission.
After this introduction, Jean-Marie Fondacaro presented the model of his work which represents a silhouette with bird wings.

Called “The Angel of the Bay“, the sculpture will measure about 4.5 meters tall and will be made of aluminum. A heart with the names of the 86 victims will be installed on the base of the statue.
The sculpture will be installed on the Promenade des Anglais, near the Palais de la Méditerranée, where the truck came to a halt, and it will be inaugurated next July 14.

In November last year, the city launched a call for projects to pay tribute to the 86 victims of the July 14 attack. Fifteen artists responded to this call.
