The contemporary cultural hub of the city of Nice hosts the second edition of “Autumn of the Image 2023” from September 22 to December 3, 2023.
Co-produced by the association La Bande Passante and the municipality, the initiative aims to bring together festivals and events around the image. Whether it is still or moving, the image is celebrated this season. The organizer’s real goal is to make autumn in Nice synonymous with the image.
“This second edition of Autumn of the Image promises to be rich and daring, much more comprehensive than last year’s. I see it already as a forecasted success,” shares Robert Roux, deputy to Christian Estrosi delegated to Culture.
Resident of 109 since January 2023, La Bande Passante brings together nine associations (Autour de…, Casa Doc’, Le Cercle Rouge, Cinéma Sans Frontières, Galette Production, Héliotrope, Il était un Truc…, Regard Indépendant & Sept Off) forming an image hub. The idea is to “act collectively” on the territory of Nice and its surroundings. Thus, the various events take place at 109 and other places in Nice, and even beyond.
A new (temporary) cinema hall in Nice
Following a successful first edition in 2022, according to its organizers, this year they aimed bigger. The program, mixing cinema, video, and photography, is more extensive. It revolves around a location, the 109, and more specifically a brand-new space designed for the occasion. Indeed, it partially relocates from the Grande Halle.
This is the major novelty of the season: the pop-up cinema. Set up in an artist’s studio, this new cinema hall is occupied by La Bande Passante for the “Autumn of the Image 2023”. “Building a cinema hall in a place that isn’t one is a cultural act, it’s a political act,” claims Amélie Masciotta, president of the association La Bande Passante. She continues: “The desire was to build a hall as we love it, as we want it, as we dream it.”
The screening room has 60 seats. It was designed as modular and capable of accommodating all formats. Thus, spectators comfortably seated on royal blue chairs recovered from Acropolis and mounted on wheels can attend screenings in both digital and analog. It aims for “high visual and sound quality.” La Bande Passante promises “a warm space for gatherings, creation” accompanied by “a refreshment area and a micro-shop.”

- 24th Edition of the Cinema and Video Meetings by Regard Indépendant from November 23 to 25
Sessions are open for free or at reduced prices (between €3 and €7).
