Heritage Days: In the Mayor’s Office of Nice…

Latest News

On the occasion of the European Heritage Day, the City of Nice offers a rich program of tours, visits, concerts, and conferences designed to freely showcase its fabulous heritage. Thus, the office of the city’s first magistrate, Christian Estrosi, will be open for visits, and he will personally welcome his fellow citizens and other visitors this Saturday, September 14, from 9 to 11 am.

Comprising a set in the purest Art Deco style, all the elements of the office were designed by Clément Goyenèche. Patterns, such as those on the front of the desk: palm trees, olive trees, and fig trees, evoke the Mediterranean roots of the City of Nice. The use of mahogany, reddish-brown leather, and crimson velvet brings warmth to the entire furniture set, which contrasts with the coldness of the glass and metal doors and fireplace screens.

In front of the marquetry desk, three armchairs with deep velvet seats are lined up. This set is completed with a final armchair, the Mayor’s, and a set of shelves with clean lines.

The artworks that complement the discovery of the office of the First Magistrate of the Nice City include La Promenade des Anglais by Angelo Garino (1921), Le Maréchal Masséna by Edouard Detaille (19th century), Ligne indéterminée by Bernar Venet, 1988, Le Coureur by Robert Roux, the sculpture Joséphine Baker (1999), and the serigraphy The Desert Lady (1993) by Niki de Saint Phalle.
