Hervé Domingue’s whimsical, moving, dreamy notes.

HD.jpg Does this face look familiar to you, doesn’t it? Let me say The Twist Years, The Zazou Years… Do you remember? Yes, Hervé Domingue is a former “resident” of the Roger Louret Company.

After having performed other people’s songs, today, this “dreamer” “sensitive” is opening up his musical repertoire to you. And what a repertoire! What lyrics!

On stage, he is accompanied by Jean-Christophe Déjean’s string instrument. Listen, listen… “Behind the Door”, a “neo-fantastic-realistic” universe awaits you…

Nice-Premium: Hervé Domingue, would you read the first page of your book to us?

Hervé Domingue: Once upon a time there was Hervé Domingue, a rather dreamy young singer born in Marseille, who, unable to reach the moon, decided to make it his home. He had…

N-P: But tell us, looking at the interface, we realize it’s composed of various musical stories! Could you introduce us to these stories with which you transport people who listen to you sing?

H.D.: Coming from theater, I couldn’t imagine singing anything but little musical stories. In a song, I have always considered that the words and the music have equal importance. There’s always a part of me in my lyrics and when I am directly or indirectly touched by a topic, I cannot help it, I have to write!
My stories always come from everyday life, it’s after that I amplify, romanticize… or not.

N-P: Emotion, laughter, and also tears… paintings that therefore appeal to our senses!

H.D.: I am sensitive. I can go from extreme joy in life to deep despair. My songs are a true open book on my personality.

N-P: If there were only 4 words to define your musical paintings?

H.D.: Bright, dark, realistic, abstract.

N-P: On Myspace, we can listen to your compositions. I was touched by “The House on the Hill”, in which you talk about your childhood home almost as if it were a person. A fairy tale for a house!

H.D.: This song is very dear to me. It forms a strong link between my childhood and the present. As soon as it comes time to sing it on stage, I am transported right to the door of that house.

N-P: Sad lyrics in “The Stars Have Fallen”
“Why have the stars fallen
And sewn themselves to our hearts
Why stop shining
To yellow in the hollow of misfortune”

H.D.: This song is my modest contribution to the fight against forgetting.

N-P: What is the name of Hervé Domingue’s star?

H.D.: “Passion”

N-P: On stage, Hervé Domingue is sometimes a dog, sometimes a cowboy, sometimes a child (pitchoun), sometimes a baby…but in fact, Hervé Domingue is…

A dreamer.

N-P: As a child you were shy, blushing when your name was called in class. Has the stage been a remedy for shyness?

H.D.: It has helped me a lot although I’m still a bit shy in life. I believe that shyness is an integral part of my genetic heritage. However, on stage, I no longer know what that word means.

N-P: Hervé Domingue, child of the south, what images come to your mind when we evoke this south?

H.D.: That particular light that I miss so much in Paris along with the warm smell of pines and scrubland in the middle of summer. I grew up in the middle of a pine forest!

N-P: Today on stage in Paris, tomorrow a tour? A stopover in Nice?

H.D.: That’s all the harm I wish for myself! We are starting to prepare the tour!

N-P: Has your pen ever landed in Nice?

H.D.: Never, but I think it would fly with inspiration over the Promenade des Anglais!

N-P: To close this book which will soon be re-opened, I extend my pen to you. What would you put on the front page tomorrow on our daily web newspaper from the Côte d’Azur?

H.D.: Tickets for Hervé Domingue are already on sale! Hurry up, there won’t be enough for everyone! (I’ve already said it… I’m a big dreamer…)
