New Direction for the Victorine Studios

After being taken over by the city’s management in 2017, new projects seem to be emerging for the iconic Nice studios. A management that has borne fruit, as in April 2021, the National Center for Cinema (CNC) included the Victorine Studios in the “Shock of Modernization” call for projects, thus designating them among the most active filming facilities in France.

The CNC experts have thus encouraged the change of studio management to finance a large-scale project. It is in this direction that the City Council voted for delegated management to a concessionaire. Certain parts of the site, intended for the local branch of France Télévision or cultural and heritage public activities, are not included in this project.

The concessionaire’s investment is set at a minimum of 35 million euros for a contract lasting 35 years. A fee will also be paid to the city, consisting of a fixed part and a variable part based on its turnover.

New Look for the Mamac

As a continuation of the Paillon Promenade developments, the Mamac will also undergo changes. A renovation project that should unlock a grant from the Ministry of Culture and boost Nice’s bid for European Capital of Culture.

The work at MAMAC will include:

  • An increase in surface area by 15 to 20%
  • A new, more visible and “majestic” entrance
  • Enhancement of the Yves Klein Square
  • Adaptation to public expectations in terms of services and reception quality (reception area, dining, and shop)
  • An inclusive path, fully accessible for persons with reduced mobility (PMR).

During the construction, starting from the second half of 2023, the collections will be moved and stored in different spaces compliant with the conditions for “Musées de France.” The museum will still offer its services through an off-site program, developed around a strategy of 5 axes:

    Mamac Nomade

With:

  • The local dissemination of the collection through loans of artworks in the territory. Off-site mediation devices similar to Calder’s mobile in front of the Matisse museum forecourt.
  • The design of a traveling Mamac mobile that can move around the Metropolis and present the artworks. This will enable rural areas to benefit from Mamac’s mediation actions.

    Mamac Éphémère

The Mamac collections could be showcased at 109. This resource place could also host teams for artistic practice activities and encounters.
