Monday, July 25 at the Côte d’Azur Hippodrome
-Final of the World’s Strongest Men Championship
It is the very first time that the Hippodrome hosts such an “insane” show, which will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on the audience.
Real human colossuses will perform incredible feats of strength, worthy of the giants described in mythology legends.
The international federation (World’s Natural Strongman Federation – www.wnsfworld.com) created by Hungary is very strict in its regulations: no doping of any kind (hence the label “Natural”).
Only high-level training and bodybuilding are allowed to achieve the feats that can be appreciated during this unique evening.
9 countries are participating in this 2011 World Championship final: United States, England, France, Scotland, Romania, Moldova, Sweden, Hungary (2 teams), and Poland.
The competition will be refereed by Csaba Franc Lazar, an international referee in the discipline.
After a presentation of the different teams and 20 athletes, the events—all very spectacular—will take place between the trotting races of the horse racing event, near the stands:
- “Atlas Stones”: the “Atlas stones” are concrete balls weighing 120 to 195 kg that the athletes must lift off the ground and place onto a platform. In Greek mythology, Atlas is one of the titans who organized the revolt against the gods of Olympus and was condemned by Zeus to hold up the world, which is why he is depicted carrying the earth on his shoulders. The name of this event is, of course, borrowed from the legend.
- “Tire Flip”: athletes must flip giant tires weighing 400 to 500 kg as quickly as possible.
- “Farmers Walk”: a peculiar walk, this one (the “Farmer’s Walk”), where one must lift lead suitcases weighing 130 to 150 kg at each hand and carry them as fast as possible across a distance of 20 to 30 meters.
- “Medley”: a pyramid-shaped weight of 150 kg must be lifted from the ground and carried over a distance of 25 meters as quickly as possible, followed by a “water carrier,” a 420 kg metal structure placed on the shoulders, to be moved as fast as possible over a distance of 15 meters.
- “Power Stairs”: loaded with weights from 200 to 280 kg, athletes must climb two steps as fast as possible.
- “Truck Pull”: finally, as the “highlight of the show,” in addition to the final events of the World’s Strongest Men Championship, the Strongmen will perform a Truck Pull exhibition.
A truly breathtaking show!
France is organizing the 2011 edition of this World’s Strongest Men Championship final, and it is Nice’s Jonathan RENAUD, 4th in the 2010 French Championship, who is the mastermind behind this spectacle at the Côte d’Azur Hippodrome. He holds the French record for suitcase lifting with 220 kg in each hand.
