The Ligue Magnus season for the Nice Eagles has once again been halted with the postponement of two of the latest matches for the Azur team. It means an early winter break that extends until January 3. The team will travel to Chamonix for the 27th matchday.
New Postponements and a Major Issue
Despite the stringent restrictions implemented by the Federation since the beginning of the season, the championship is temporarily paused due to the current situation in the country, which has not weakened. As of today, it is known that the regular season is supposed to end on March 5. However, 15 matchdays involving the red and black team are currently postponed, creating visible disparities in the standings, which are unreadable at the moment. With a total of four games played, Cergy-Pontoise is the team that has spent the least time on the ice, while Nice has faced its opponents 12 times.
A major problem is expected to arise in a few weeks because teams will have a completely different rhythm, which might disrupt the conclusion of the 2020-2021 season. It is certain that the Nice team will have the least demanding rush, giving them a slight advantage over direct competitors and the possible title race.
A Short Pause
If there is any good news, the Ligue Magnus will resume with more intensity in about 10 days. The Eagles were supposed to play Angers the day before yesterday (December 22) and then leaders Rouen on the 30th. These two matches, initially scheduled to be played at Jean-Bouin, are postponed to a yet unknown date. We will have to be patient to watch the championship clash between first-place Rouen and their runner-up Nice.
Support for the Clubs
In a statement, the French Ice Hockey Federation announced a new support plan for Ligue Magnus clubs. At the beginning of the crisis, public authorities provided 300,000 euros in aid to offset costs related to freezing scheduled commitments and expenses. Today, the committee has added an additional 700,000 euros to help clubs better handle this unusual season.
