On Friday evening, the Eagles of Nice traveled to the Cergy-Pontoise rink for the 29th day of the Ligue Magnus. After a fine performance, the Niรงois claimed victory (2-1).
Two days after the defeat in Rouen (5-3), the Niรงois went on another trip as part of the Ligue Magnus. The Eagles faced Cergy-Pontoise this time. The Jokers are in 8th place, only three points ahead of Nice, which is in 9th. The eighth place is crucial as it allows a team to avoid the relegation group, which involves teams ranked 9th to 12th at the end of all the championship matches.
A Good Performance by the Eagles
The first period saw a fierce battle between the two teams. Nice and Cergy-Pontoise alternately had opportunities to score. However, no goals were scored during this first act.
The pressure from Nice intensified at the beginning of the second period. The Eagles had multiple chances on the Cergy-Pontoise Jokers’ net. Naturally, the Niรงois opened the scoring through Louis Vitou (1-0) in the 38th minute.
An Animated End to the Match
The Eagles started the final period with the lead. The Cergy players then monopolized the puck and laid siege to Niceโs goal. But the Eagles’ defense remained solid, as did their goalkeeper Conrad Mรถlder. It was a big scare for Nice.
However, the goal was disallowed because the net had moved during the play. Cergy-Pontoise eventually equalized shortly after, in the 58th minute (1-1). It was a hard blow for the Eagles with just two minutes left in the game. But not a crushing one for the Niรงois, as they regained the lead in the last minute of the match. Radek Cip secured the victory for Nice (2-1).
The next match is scheduled for next Tuesday, January 9th, at the Jean Bouin rink for the Eagles. The Niรงois will host Anglet for the 30th day of the Ligue Magnus. The kickoff is set for 8 PM.
