Frantisek Stolc’s men wanted to get back to winning ways. After three consecutive defeats in Ligue Magnus, including the one last Friday at Briançon, the Niçois traveled to Angers this Friday night. The match promised to be quite challenging. After twelve days, Angers was at the top of the league with only two defeats this season.
Angevins start strong
The match began in front of a sold-out rink. It was Angers who opened the scoring after five minutes of play. Phillipe Halley took advantage of a bad exit by Nice’s goalkeeper Nikita Bespalov to score in the empty net (1-0). The Dukes of Angers extended their lead immediately after with a goal by Brodie Reid (2-0). The Eagles endured numerous assaults from their evening’s opponent in the first period of the match.
Reduced to a player less at the start of the second period, the Niçois conceded a third goal in the match, scored by Peter Valier (3-0). The Dukes were pulling away in this encounter. The fourth goal came shortly after, scored by Antonin Manavian (4-0). The penalty by Jesper Larinmaa proved costly for the Eagles of Nice.
The Niçois too undisciplined in defense
Trailing, the Niçois started this third period well. Captain Louis Belisle scored the first goal for the Eagles in this match (4-1). The Niçois dominated this last period of the match, even as the Angevins managed to maintain their lead, despite being shorthanded. The score remained unchanged. The Niçois logically fell to Angers. The league leader dominated almost the entire match. Fourth consecutive league defeat for the Eagles.
The next match is next Friday for the Eagles of Nice. The Niçois will face Chamonix at the Jean Bouin rink as part of the 14th day of Ligue Magnus. Kick-off at 8:00 PM.
