Meet in front of the Saint-Augustin Church – Old Nice

Jean-Marc Giaume, Deputy Mayor in charge of Heritage and the Niçoise Language and Culture, and Eric Ciotti, Deputy, President of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, will pay tribute on Saturday, November 20, 2010, during a joyful and popular ceremony, to Catherine Ségurane, the Niçoise heroine.

  9:45 AM: Gathering in front of the Saint-Augustin Church,

  10:00 AM: Mass celebrated in Niçoise by Father Angella and sung by the group Nissa la Bella, in the Saint-Augustin Church,

  11:00 AM: Tribute in front of the Catherine Ségurane monument,

  11:20 AM: Friendship drink offered by the City of Nice.

Catherine Ségurane, a character who is among the most famous in Nice, is depicted as a common woman, a laundress by trade. This woman, the “érouina Nissarda,” is at the heart of Niçoise identity.
She symbolizes, in the collective imagination, both the resistance of a city against invaders and the mobilization of an entire people, particularly that of women whose fate, in times of war, was often predetermined.
