Latest News

It was D-Day. On this Sunday, July 23, the fifth and final day of competition took place. The final pitted the Switzerland of Céline Naef and Leandro Riedi against the Croatia of Donna Vekić and Borna Ćorić, recently the downfall of Spain. On your marks, get set, go!

To open the debates, Céline Naef and Donna Vekić were ready to face off. And without much suspense, it was the Croatian who won in two sets (6-3 / 6-4) and 1h26′ of play. Then at 4-4 in the second set, Naef was unable to make a difference and succumbed to the undeniable play of Donna Vekić.

It’s an understatement to say that Leandro Riedi couldn’t afford any mistakes. Unfortunately for him, he ran into a wall. Indeed, Borna Ćorić defeated the Swiss in two sets (6-1 / 6-4) and 1h19′ of play. After an expedited first set, the next was more competitive, but like his compatriot, he didn’t have the necessary resources to win today.

Great promises for the future

With these two singles victories, there was no need for a mixed doubles match, the games were decided. Despite an unexpected journey by Switzerland, with rankings of 157ᵉ and 160ᵉ in the WTA and ATP respectively, the task seemed too great for Céline Naef (18 years old) and Leandro Riedi (21 years old).

In conclusion, the experience of Croatia, represented by Donna Vekić, ranked 22ᵉ in the world, and Borna Ćorić, 15ᵉ, made all the difference and left no doubt about the outcome of the tournament. Congratulations to the Croatians for winning their second Hopman Cup title!
