Through the S.R.U law, the city of Nice must now achieve 25% of social rental housing in relation to the number of main residences. The current situation is far from meeting this goal (11.9%), and so it is a matter of taking the bull by the horns and using for this purpose the function housing in schools that are no longer allocated.
These housing units will be regulated and recorded under the S.R.U inventory.
For Christian Estrosi: โDiversifying solutions to address the housing challenge, which is my political priority along with employment.โ
To date, 120 housing units exist in schools, of which 45 are occupied by teachers (primary school or elementary school teachers), while 42 former housing units have been transformed to meet school needs (expansion of premises, classrooms, school cafeterias, libraries, computer rooms, specialized rooms).
However, the mayor of Nice continues, โthe municipality, mindful of the housing difficulties for its citizens, wishes to exploit all solutions that allow for developing a new offer of housing. Thus, 17 former *school housing units with independent access, ensuring not to disrupt the proper functioning and safety of schools (Vigipirate Plan), will be part of a partnership with Cรดte d’Azur Habitat for complete rehabilitation with the aim of putting them on the social rental market after the de-allocation process.โ
To conclude: โThis protocol materializes the joint mobilization of Cรดte d’Azur Habitat and the City to combat vacant public housing.โ
