On Wednesday, February 1, the Abbé Pierre Foundation released its 17th report on inadequate housing. It estimates that more than 8 million people are affected by the housing crisis and reminds us that access to housing is a major concern for the French, alongside employment. The Abbé Pierre Foundation emphasizes the importance of appropriate public policies to address the worsening of inadequate housing and the necessity to undertake actions promoting social diversity and home ownership.

The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis is mentioned several times in these approximately 220 pages for its effective actions taken over the past four years: mobilizing regulatory planning tools to develop social housing production promoting social diversity, PLH/PLU compatibility, rehabilitation of the existing stock, etc.

Everyone should be able to have a decent home to live with their family and raise their children. This is an essential prerequisite for restoring the area as a space of citizenship, social connection, conviviality, and solidarity. Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, and his Deputy Delegate for Housing, Urban Renewal, and Anti-discrimination, Dominique Estrosi-Sassone, are pursuing an ambitious policy in this direction, with the main goal of achieving 10,000 housing units, half of which in the social housing sector, under the PLH 2010-2015 framework.

This proactive policy contributes to the attractiveness and economic development of the metropolitan area, and therefore to its future.
