For more than a month, the company Streeteo has taken over the parking market in Nice. Equipped with its vehicle equipped with automatic license plate reading, it has nearly doubled the number of daily fines, increasing from 1,400 to 2,600.
According to Gaël Nofri, the deputy mayor in charge of traffic and parking, interviewed by Nice-Matin, if there are now more fines, it is because the predecessor company, Moovia, was not doing its job correctly.
Indeed, according to him, the requirements of the city’s contract remain unchanged and the number of requested checks still peaks at 12,000 per day.
Nevertheless, this change of service provider is accompanied by a reduction in parking fees.
One hour of parking now costs 1 euro 20, and the motorist has 30 minutes of free parking on weekdays and 1 hour on weekends.
The flat-rate fine, however, has increased by 9 euros, from 16 to 25 euros.
For the city of Nice, the objective is clear: to deter drivers from committing fraud.
