After nearly two years at the helm of the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture, Hugues Moutouh has officially bid farewell, before joining the Ministry of the Interior as Secretary General.
โI have at least lasted longer than the four governments France has had in less than a year,โ declares Hugues Moutouh, in front of an attentive assembly. This was an ironic way to highlight the political turmoil of recent months while emphasizing his own long-term commitment.
During his speech, the now former prefect made a point of acknowledging the dedication of the Alpes-Maritimes residents to the Republic. โIt’s a complex territory, yes, due to its border with Italy. But above all, it’s a territory of inhabitants who love France,โ he stated. He stressed the necessity of maintaining a strong bond between state representatives and the population: โThe residents of the Alpes-Maritimes expect us to be present, to represent them. When that’s the case, they respond with their hearts.โ
A Speech Honoring the Beauty of the Cรดte d’Azur
โNice is not the Saint-Denis scene, so I have no complaints,โ he jokes, injecting a note of humor for lightness. Thus, he speaks of the contrasting security challenges across different territories.
He admits to having considered, at one point, a more relaxed retirement, far from the responsibilities of high public office: โI thought about setting down the files and leaving under the sun, with white sandโฆโ But the call of the Republic seems to have been stronger. He will now take on a strategic position at the heart of the state apparatus.
Hugues Moutouh extended heartfelt thanks to those who supported him during his tenure: the residents, his collaborators, his family… A departure both solemn and personal.
