The Eagles of Nice Hockey Côte d’Azur (NHCA) were taking their first steps in the elite level of French ice hockey.
On paper, the visitors from Strasbourg appeared to be the favorites in this matchup.
Opposite them, the Eagles, full of drive and hope, were ready to seize the Magnus adventure, strengthened since this summer by a large number of players accustomed to the elite (Jeremy Romand, Alexis Birolini, Pierrick Hoehe, and Roman Vondracek) and able to rely on last season’s key players (Milan Varga, Zbynek Hampl, and Matej Hamrak).
In the end, Nice shut out Strasbourg 2-0 in their inaugural match in the Ligue Magnus.
The heroes are named Hamrak, Hampl & Sedlacek. The two scorers, in the first and third periods, and the goaltender who stopped 38 shots.
The Eagles will face Lyon on Friday, who had a rough start by losing in Bordeaux.
