The Eagles finally bowed down (1-2) last night to the Rouen Dragons, the top team in Ligue Magnus.
The Niçois were close to causing an upset against the Rouen leader last night. It was the Eagles who opened the scoring in the first period, thanks to F. Bergeron (13:04).
Strong defensively and enterprising in attack, the Eagles long believed they could score a second goal, but that was counting without the Dragons’ resilience! Just back from the locker room, L. Lamperier crucified the Niçois goalie (00:28) to equalize at the very beginning of the second period.
In doubt, the Eagles logically crumbled a few moments later. A. Guttig restored the visitors’ advantage (06:49) after a fine team effort.
The third period was tough on both sides. Well regrouped at the back, the Dragons were on the verge of faltering in the face of Niçois offensives! It was close, just minutes before the end of the match, for the Eagles to equalize, and even take the lead! Silent in the last period, the Eagles let slip a victory that was within their grasp!
