The Nice Hockey team reassured themselves this weekend on the Megève ice rink by defeating the Mont-Blanc Avalanche (6-3). Even though the Azuréens put themselves in danger in the third period, they finally managed to bounce back after two consecutive losses
The objective was to grab 2 points on the Megève ice rink against the Mont-Blanc club to finally recover after a failed start to January with a win against Dunkerque but two consecutive losses to Annecy and especially the inexplicable home defeat to Anglet. Mission accomplished for Stanislav Sutor’s men.
Jimmy Lundberg’s teammates quickly took the lead by scoring the first goal of the match at 6 minutes and 30 seconds into the game by César Fleury. It was especially in the second period that the Azuréens pulled away thanks to Nicolas Motreff, Aurélien Macon, and Stefan Rusnak.
Fabien Satonay’s goal at the end of the second period sparked the revolt of the Savoyards. The Azuréens found themselves at a double numerical disadvantage, and Mont-Blanc came back to 4-3. But there was no panic, as the teammates managed to seal the game with two final goals by Jan Tomaska and Stefan Majernik.
Confirm against Courbevoie
With this victory, the club is tied in points with the 4th place team, Bordeaux (24 points), and remains four points behind the leader, Brest. Now the Eagles need to confirm their form on Saturday against Courbevoie. Normally, the Niçois should not have too much trouble defeating the Parisians, who are 11th, and were beaten 5-1 last week in Brest. It’s a mandatory step in qualifying for the play-offs for entry into the Magnus League.
If the club wants to reach the highest division in the hierarchy of French hockey, they will need to follow the same path as last year. They need to reach the finals of the play-offs and finally climb the last step that the Niçois unfortunately missed last year against Mulhouse. The game against the Parisians at the Jean Bouin Ice Rink starts at 7:15 PM.
