La Compagnie de Phalsbourg activates a solar self-consumption system on the roof of Iconic, in Nice. More than 500 panels cover a portion of the siteโs and Hilton Hotel’s needs. This choice is part of an environmentally transformative strategy undertaken by the group.
La Compagnie de Phalsbourg has just commissioned a photovoltaic system installed on the roof of Iconic, its urban building located opposite Thiers train station in Nice. More than 500 solar panels are now in place. They cover an area of 1,000 mยฒ. They supply energy to the private and secure promenade. They also cover up to 20% of the annual energy needs of the Hilton Hotel, which has 105 rooms.
The installation operates on self-consumption. The group aims to reduce the energy impact of its buildings by relying on a mix based on renewable solutions. This approach accompanies the development of Iconic. The building was inaugurated on July 15, 2024, after several years of work. Some call it “the diamond,” referring to its structure and shiny appearance. Iconic celebrated its first year of operation last July.
The complex covers 20,000 mยฒ. It brings together eight types of activities: shops, restaurants, hotel, offices, education, sports, culture, and events. La Compagnie de Phalsbourg describes Iconic as a project designed to meet varied uses. The organization of spaces allows for easy movement between activities. The landscaped and secure promenade attracts a wide audience. The people of Nice visit it, as well as passing visitors who come to relax. The fast-food and relaxation offers contribute to the site’s traffc.
The Hilton Hotel boasts a high occupancy rate. The establishment accommodates a mixed clientele: tourism, business, and event-related stays. The group plans to add 17 rooms, increasing the hotel’s capacity to 122 rooms. Expanding the accommodation offer aims to support the site’s increasing demand.
The education hub is active. Three institutions are present: AURLOM, Skills and Development, and Scholae school. Together, they host nearly 1,000 students. This presence strengthens Iconicโs hybrid character.
The Metropolitan Sport Club & Spa gym extends over 2,500 mยฒ. It offers fitness equipment and a panoramic view of the city. The site also includes a commercial offer with 100% occupancy. Among the brands present are Uniqlo, Monoprix, Starbucks, Five Guys, Kayser, Street Bangkok, Bagelstein, Amorino, and Foca. These varied activities create a continuous flow.
A strategy based on the progressive scaling up of the site
Iconic must continue its development. A performance hall will open in 2026. It will offer 1,000 seats. The programming will include concerts, immersive formats, and shows. A seminar room will complete the ensemble, designed to complement the hotel offering.
The venue already hosts regular events. Friday night DJ sets are held on the forecourt, contributing to a lively atmosphere and increasing the site’s appeal.
According to Philippe Journo, founder and president of La Compagnie de Phalsbourg, Iconic “has succeeded in changing the appearance of the Gare de Thiers district.” He believes that the building is part of the city’s modernization. Iconic was conceived from the start as an open place. The project aims to contribute to urban dynamics.
The commissioning of the photovoltaic system supports this trajectory. The group wants to integrate more renewable energy sources into its programs. The installation at Iconic illustrates this direction. The building now has its own energy supply. The system reduces dependence on external networks and aids in managing the site’s consumption.
Iconic thus continues to evolve. The venue transforms in stages. Uses are shaped by its frequention. The project demonstrates that a real estate complex can combine commerce, culture, education, and services within a single structure.
