IDISS Don Bosco: A Center of Excellence for a School-Sports Training Project

Latest News

It is in “joy and clarity,” as the slogan at the entrance of the hall of honor says, that young athletes from Nice celebrated the official start of the year/season that has just begun.

don_bosco.jpg Joy because, in their dual role as student and athlete, they pursue their passion without sacrificing their personal development.

Clarity because it is done in an optimal context since the balance between these two commitments is the result of stable equilibrium.

Finally, how can we not highlight the excellence of this formative project, which sees the school organized according to this objective working in the same direction, an establishment whose effectiveness is beyond question, the Nice Academy providing the educational and pedagogical resources, the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee of the Alpes-Maritimes in its role as facilitator and coordinator, sports clubs, and artistic stakeholders (Music Conservatory and ballet), new partners of this project.

And to let the numbers speak for themselves… In 2013-2014: 100% success in the Brevet des Collèges and 100% success in the general and technological Baccalaureate.

And how can we not recall that this project is unique across the entire French territory?

Examples like this are in demand!

The Don Bosco Nice establishment currently hosts 230 student-athletes from grades 6 to the final year S and ES within the IDISS project. These young people integrate with other students for a total of 1,530 pupils.

The I.D.I.S.S., Institute for the Development of School Interests of Athletes, a French association under the 1901 law, is located in the heart of the Don Bosco establishment and is supported by the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Sports.

The students benefit from 3 afternoons per week to practice their sports in various partner clubs (swimming, synchronized swimming, water polo, figure skating, dance, ice hockey, cycling, mountain biking, karate, boxing, judo…) and the complete education provided by the National Education system: they are in adjusted schedules.

A tripartite agreement exists between the school, the club, and the student (and their parents). It outlines the commitments of the respective parties and provides the conditions for remaining in these specific classes.

In fact, the I.D.I.S.S. manages the academic and sports monitoring of these students and establishes collaboration between the school and partner clubs.

Young people, including those at a high level, are required to have exemplary behavior in both academic and sports arenas in addition to obvious academic and athletic motivation.

Local authorities contribute significantly to this project with funding of 15,000 euros from the Nice City Hall and 16,000 euros from the General Council, as confirmed by the representative of these two institutions, Lauriano Azinheirinha, during his speech at the ceremony.

A most precious aid in times of lean finances.
