The furniture company IKEA opened its doors this morning in the Saint-Isidore district. The inauguration took place in the presence of the group’s leaders, a representative from the Swedish embassy in France, and the city’s mayor, Christian Estrosi.
It is now official, the people of Nice can henceforth shop at the furniture giant IKEA. This is the 36th store in France.
Several speakers took the floor, including the president of the IKEA group, who praised the strong relations between France and Sweden, the home country of the group. He further stated that “France is IKEA’s third largest global market”. The group’s management also emphasized the ecological aspect by noting that “all deliveries will be made by electric trucks”. After this, the city’s mayor, Christian Estrosi, spoke to also praise the bilateral relations that unite the two countries, highlighting the Swedish company by mentioning “the spirit of family”, “corporate patriotism”, and “excellent human resource management”.
The opening of this store represents a boon for the economy, 85% of the people hired are from Nice, and many apartments and shops in the city will be furnished. This opening of IKEA has sparked joy among many residents of Nice, with many of them making the trip in the morning.
