Yesterday, a solemn funeral ceremony took place on the forecourt of the Prefecture in tribute to Commander Bruno Kohlhuber, who passed away during a rescue operation on the evening of the “Alex” storm in the Vésubie Valley. The firefighter, born in Saint-Dizier, was 49 years old.

Due to the health crisis context, 60 firefighters from the department’s seven units were present to pay a final tribute to Commander Kohlhuber.

Mrs. Marlène Schiappa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, in charge of citizenship, attended this solemn ceremony alongside Colonel Jimmy Gaubert, Deputy Director of SDIS 06, Bernard Gonzalez, Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, Charles Ange Ginésy, President of the Departmental Council, Eric Ciotti, Deputy of the 1st constituency of Alpes-Maritimes, Dominique Estrosi Sassone, Senator of Alpes-Maritimes, as well as several senior representatives of the firefighters.

Commander Kohlhuber was a column chief within the Nice Montagne company and had been serving as a professional firefighter for 27 years.

Mrs. Schiappa conveyed on her behalf and on behalf of the government her most sincere condolences to the family: “Your husband, your father, was throughout his life a passionate, committed man, faithful to the service of others, an exemplary firefighter who always proudly represented the colors of his uniform.”

Commander Bruno Kohlhuber was posthumously awarded the Chevalier of the Legion of Honor medal.

He had been awarded an honorary medal for acts of courage and dedication for his commitment during the July 14 attacks on the Promenade des Anglais.
