The announcement was made this Monday by the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, and the director of the Tour, Christian Prudhomme: the prologue of the Tour will be raced on the streets of Nice on Saturday, June 27, 2020.

According to the latter, the variety of landscapes and terrains in the region “was conducive to suspense, attack, and spectacle.”

The first stages of this 107th Grande Boucle โ€“ whose route remains unknown โ€“ will also be contested on the Cรดte dโ€™Azur.

The Grande Boucle had not returned to Nice since 1981, which was 37 years ago. That year, the city hosted the first two days of the race, a prologue won by Bernard Hinault and two half-stages (including a team time trial).

For Christian Estrosi, “This new stage reinforces my desire to make #Nice06 an essential city in the organization of major sporting events. We will be keen to offer organizers and teams optimal hosting conditions.”
