The Patti Smith concert was simply magical. In front of a warm and responsive intergenerational audience, a union of gathered individuals, she revisited her repertoire with an authenticity, strength, and almost unreal elegance.
Of course, there was a bit of nostalgia, for our younger years like that night spent in Andorra listening endlessly at our student friends’ place to Hey Joe and the album Horses.
But it was above all an incredible show of today where the world-citizen singer shared with that unique voice her revolt against the dangers threatening the planet while not yielding on the demand for justice so that “People have the power.”
From Hendrix to Lou Reed and past the Stones, a Patti concert is also an incredible dive into the legend of rock. These are also rare moments like when the audience came together on Because the Night dedicated to her lover Fred Sonic Smith, who passed away too soon.
And of course, the breathtaking finale on her revisited Gloria: “Jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine.”
We completely agree, Patti. Come back soon!
