Last year, the municipal police of Nice equipped themselves with three drones. Although their use by local authorities was rejected by the Constitutional Council, the municipal police of Nice have already trained four of their officers to be able to use them.
On Wednesday, February 2, an official ceremony took place at the main city hall to award four municipal police officers their drone piloting certificates.
These four officers underwent a six-month training course organized by Patrolair, a training organization collaborating with the French Civil Aviation Authority. After more than 100 hours of training, they all passed their exam and were thus awarded the drone piloting diploma.
But what will these drones be used for if municipal officers cannot use them? The question is worth asking since a few days ago, the Constitutional Council decided not to extend the use of drones to local authorities.

While the law currently does not allow for the use of these devices for security purposes, the deputy mayor, Anthony Borrรฉ, stated that these drones โwill operate through missions involving topography, mapping, prevention, civil security, or assistance to the communes of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur metropolisโ. The deputy mayor also expressed satisfaction, declaring that the city will โonce again, be a step aheadโ.
With the agents ready, indeed, all that remains is to change the law.
