After the JOGA quartet on September 12, the Isa Rabaraona Quintet on October 10, and the Guitar Duo on November 6, the Depardieu Gallery continues its Jazz at the Gallery program, a monthly event where enthusiasts and aficionados gather with pleasure and friendliness.
LAURENT SARRIEN VIBES TRIO: Swing, Bebop, Free, Fusion… These are just some of the diverse universes and sensibilities that Laurent Sarrien, drummer, tirelessly explores and engages with. The idea of the Vibes Trio is for him a journey through twenty years of music and discoveries across all horizons, an opportunity to revisit, this time with a vibraphone, the most intense moments and themes with which a real connection has been established. Without pastism or nostalgia, the Trio explores a vast repertoire, from Duke Ellington to the present, uncovering gems and magnificent yet lesser-known and rarely played works. Some pieces seem to have been written for the vibraphone-guitar-double bass trio, while others present a challenge for an ensemble without drums. However, in the intimate warmth of the group’s sound, the clarity of the vibraphone, and the roundness of the strings, each piece finds its natural place and color.
Laurent SARRIEN Vibraphone: Awarded a percussion prize at the Conservatoire de Dijon, he is the co-founder of the highly regarded Collectif Mu (winner of the Vienne 1995 and La Défense 1996 competitions, two albums with Seventh Records) and the Crescent Jazz-Club in Mâcon, managed by the musicians of the Collective and praised by the national press (Le Monde, Jazzman, Jazz Magazine…). From 1993 until today, he has primarily worked as a drummer, accompanying Steve Grossman, Bobby Few, Christian Escoudé, Eric Lelann, and many others, at the Crescent, of course, but also at New Morning, Sunset, and the festivals of Vienne and Nice, Parc Floral, etc. Still active on drums (with François Chassagnite, Shirley Bunnie Foy, Dimitri Shapko, Dodo Goya, Ronnie Rae Junior), he celebrated the ten years of the Crescent in February 2005 on the National Stage of the Mâcon Theatre (with Italian trumpeter Flavio Boltro) and participated in 2006 in the recording of Gaël Horellou’s album “explorations” (DTC Records).
Olivier GIRAUDO Guitar. Born in Paris to a professional musician father, he developed a keen interest in music, especially Jazz, at a young age. After studying with Pierre Cullaz, he performed in Parisian clubs with renowned musicians (Al Leavitt, Gilbert “Bibi” Rovere, Charles “Lolo” Bellonzi, Alby Cullaz) and accompanied the “Golden Gate Quartet.” In 1989, under the direction of René Bec (former pianist of Aimée Barelli), he became the designated guitarist of the “Loews Monte Carlo Big Band” and later worked under the direction of Maurice Jarre within the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic. He collaborates and interacts with prominent musicians like Steve Grossman (M. Davis), Frank Foster (former leader of the Count Basie orchestra), Paul Jeffrey (Monk, Basie). At the Sporting Club Monte-Carlo, he accompanies major stars (Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Nathalie Cole, Shirley Bassey, Céline Dion…). At the Nice Jazz Festival, he is alongside Shirley B. Foy, Georges Arvanitas, Oliver Jackson.
With a style reminiscent of great guitarists (Jimmy Raney, René Thomas, Grant Green), he offers his talent and experience as an accompanist/soloist to musicians like François Chassagnite (trumpeter/singer): with whom he recorded the album Jubilation in 2006 (TCB Records), at the Marciac festival, Alassio festival 2007, Dimitri Shapko (tenor sax), Sébastien Chaumont (alto sax), Laurent Sarrien (Vibraphone), Sewing Jack (double bass), Eric Polchi (sookie Polchi), and many others…
Fabrice BISTONI Double Bass: For over ten years, Fabrice Bistoni has been an indispensable double bassist in the southern French jazz scene. In 1998, he formed the Quartet “Mosaïc” with F. D’Oelsnitz, Y. Serra, and S. Chaumont, which became the Quartet/Quintet of trumpeter François Chassagnite. The band participated in the Marciac, Paris Fair, Ramatuelle festivals, Midem (Cannes)… and recorded “Un Poco Loco” (TCB Records). In 2003, he toured with a new trio consisting of R. Persi on piano and J.P. Ceccarelli on drums. A sought-after accompanist beyond Jazz, he continues to engage in varied performances (Musical Theatre, Chanson…).
