On Monday, February 7th, after more than a year of work, the volunteers of the Secours Catholique were able to welcome beneficiaries into the new premises in Nice. Breakfast, infirmary, showers, administrative assistance, up to 200 people can be accommodated each day.
Renovated premises, additional showers, a large common room, Secours Catholique is reopening its day shelter at 23 Paganini Street.
This 800 m2 space, spread over two floors, will consolidate the Secours Catholique’s reception activities, which were previously spread across two different sites.
On-site, about fifty people are mobilized to keep the place running.
Breakfast for those living on the street, social support, French lessons: the day shelter has many missions to fulfill.
The renovation cost 1,035,000 euros, according to the Secours Catholique, which received assistance from the city, the departmental council, and charitable associations.
Social support, French courses, and artistic activities will also be offered by the day shelter.
In addition to emergency aid, beneficiaries can receive social support for administrative procedures, such as asylum applications. Artistic workshops and French courses will also be provided.
