They wanted to “create a buzz.” Two students were taken into custody this Thursday, January 20, after they posted a video of a car accident on Twitter. It turned out to be a staged video.
Since Wednesday, the video of an accident has been shared by several thousand users on Twitter. In this video, which is actually the result of staging, a driver and his passenger are seen inhaling laughing gas while one of them is driving. The vehicle then slowly hits a young girl on a bicycle, causing her to fall onto a sidewalk.
As reported by Nice Matin, a woman from Nice then used this video recording to make a witness appeal in which she said, “Alert, my little sister was the victim of a serious accident around 8:30 p.m. at Nice Vauban, she is currently between life and death. Please share as much as possible to find the culprit”.”
Problem: neither the fire department, nor the emergency medical services, nor the police intervened for an accident on this Wednesday, January 19, at the time and place indicated in the video. The Nice police station therefore contacted the author of the Tweet to have her explain.
Eventually, two students were behind this Tweet. They admitted that it was a staging and that they did it to “create a buzz.”
On Thursday evening, the two students were taken into custody for reporting a fictitious offense.
