This evening at 10 p.m. in the library of the lawyer’s house, the head of the bar association, Mr. Jacques Randon, will present the Defense Committee for Pinar Selek, a sociologist, teacher, novelist, and activist for human rights and feminism.
Mrs. Selek resides and teaches in Nice. She is currently conducting several research projects and teaches political science at the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis.
This committee was formed following the life sentence request on January 25, 2017, by the Attorney General of the Court of Cassation of the Republic of Turkey, after 19 years of legal proceedings and four acquittals for the same case.
As of now, more than 90 people have joined the Nice committee, which is locally supported by various personalities, as well as the following associations: ADN, ATTAC 06, Isère Association of Friends of the Kurds (AIAK), Cimade 06, Vigilance Committee of the Alpes-Maritimes (COVIAM), Feminist Committee PCF 06, TransMéditerranée Festival, European Civic Forum, Habitat et Citoyenneté, LDH 06 and LDH PACA Committee, Friends of Freedom (ADL) MRAP 06, Nuit debout Nice, Osez le féminisme!, Left Party, PCF 06, PS 06, RESF06, French Lawyers Union 06 (SAF 06) Tous citoyens! UD CGT06, and the newspaper La Strada.
Numerous personalities have expressed their support for Pinar Selek, including several residing in our department, such as Paul Euzière, president of the TransMéditerranée Festival, Marie Louise Gourdon, commissioner of the Mouans-Sartoux Book Festival, Ernest Pignon-Ernest, artist, Slobodan, artist, and André Tosel, philosopher, president of Friends of Freedom.
