A cold shower for rugby fans. To prevent the terrorist threat, the city of Nice has decided to close its fan zone specially dedicated to the Rugby World Cup 2023.

Since the attack that occurred in Arras on October 13, the measures taken by Christian Estrosi to protect the city have resumed in full force. Like many other French municipalities, the Azurean Rugby Village decided to close its doors on Wednesday evening. It had been inaugurated on the occasion of the launch of the Rugby World Cup. Located near Place Massena at Jardin Albert 1er, the venue could accommodate up to 9,000 people per day and allowed anyone who wished to come and watch numerous matches broadcast on giant screens, with various animations and food options available.

France in a state of “attack emergency”

All security forces are currently mobilized for the surveillance of places of worship, educational institutions, and venues that receive the public. Moreover, the closure of the Rugby Village allows the reallocation of officers assigned to this site for the protection of citizens. It is also worth noting that the absence of the French team in the semi-finals suggested lower attendance.
