On Wednesday, June 5, 2013, Nice lost a true local, Sébastien Giaume, former President of the Nice Wrestling Club from 1970 to 2013, and organizer of the Henri Deglane Challenge.
“His memory will never leave us,” declared Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice.
It is to pay tribute to him that “His” garden and an inner courtyard, located opposite the Serge Leyrit sports hall—a hall he frequented so much and where many generations still thrive today—will bear the name “Sébastien Giaume.”
The inauguration will take place this Friday, February 1. This date was not chosen at random. It is also on this Friday that the Henri Deglane Challenge will begin, taking place this year on February 1 and 2, 2019. This competition, conceived and created in 1975 by Sébastien Giaume, has today become a global reference in the world of wrestling. It is the only international wrestling competition organized by a club and the last international competition organized in France.
