A life-sized nativity scene with 17 automated figures has been set up in Rossetti Square in Old Nice, from December 17 to 27, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Every year, “Lou Presèpi,” this nativity scene installed by the City of Nice in Rossetti Square, a historical square in the heart of the old town, always attracts many locals and visitors.
This tradition, like so many others, is immemorial and belongs to the heritage of the people of Nice but more broadly to the heritage of the French, regardless of their beliefs, just like painting, music, or sculpture inspired by the Bible.
It dates back to the 13th century and is believed to have been initiated by Saint Francis of Assisi, who was the first to stage a live nativity scene.
