Inauguration of the exhibition BUILDING ELSEWHERE at the Forum of Urbanism and Architecture

The Urban Planning and Architecture Forum of the City of Nice will host the exhibition “Building Elsewhere” from April 5 to May 31, 2012. The exhibition, produced by the Villa Noailles, is based on projects designed by architects from the Norwegian humanitarian organization TYIN and the young German architect Anna Heringer.

Alain Phillip, Deputy for Urban Planning, said in his speech at the opening: “Nice has always been a crossroads of ideas and knowledge, and its eclecticism is the result of the dialogue of cultures and traditions that have mutually enriched each other over time.”

In conclusion: “The urban policy being implemented is rooted in a tradition of openness, shaping our city of tomorrow on the foundations of creativity, sharing, and solidarity.”

“Look elsewhere, look differently to live together.”

By showcasing these constructions, conceived in Europe, for and in dialogue with populations in Africa or Asia, as contemporary creations reinterpreting local and ancestral building systems, this exhibition illustrates the power of a shared perspective on architecture, skills, and ways of living.

The Urban Planning and Architecture Forum, through its various conferences and exhibitions, has always been interested in these exchanges of experiences and fruitful transfers of technical skills and materials, as well as their impact on the practices of today’s architects. It is in this spirit that this exhibition is presented today, at a time when the urban policy being implemented in Nice is shaping our city of tomorrow on the foundations of sharing and solidarity.
