Inauguration of the facades of Place Garibaldi in Nice

Latest News

The redevelopment of Place Garibaldi is part of the beautification efforts of the historic districts of the city of Nice and fits into the overall operation of requalifying the square, already initiated with the new layout of the public space following the completion of the tramway works.

The restoration of the facades of Place Garibaldi, 60% financed by the City of Nice for a total amount of €1.4 million including taxes, has thus allowed this royal square to regain its full character. The only square in Europe decorated in trompe-l’œil on its four facades, Place Garibaldi is unique.

Thanks to the project designed by the City’s Architecture Service, based on original drawings preserved in the Turin archives and photographs taken from 1860 to 1910, Place Garibaldi has now recovered its historical decorations.

A total of 6,500 m² of facades have been renovated by around twenty fresco artists to enhance a major tourist spot in Nice, which is also an important venue for social gatherings in the city’s life.
