Eric Ciotti was present to inaugurate this emblematic place of Niçoise identity, named “Francine Gag,” in honor of this great lady who gave so much to make Niçoise culture shine.
Last year, the Department provided the “Nice la belle” troupe with one of its properties, the villa of Francine Gag. This allows the association to store its costumes and set up its rehearsal center.
The association was founded by Francis Gag in 1956, following the wish of Jean Médecin, who was charmed by the performances organized by the theater man. For 60 years, the “Nice la belle” troupe has been dedicated to promoting the art of living together in the city of Nice.
Since 2013, the villa has undergone renovation to restore the traditional colors of Niçoise villas. The four walls of the building once again display superb colors alternating several yellows and greens, and all the floral motif friezes and painted decorations at the top of the facades have been restored identically.
For the president of the department, Eric Ciotti, the restoration of the villa is “an important rendezvous for our roots, our culture, and our history.”
