Incidence rate decreasing in Alpes-Maritimes: the department falls below the 300 mark

Latest News

According to the latest data from Santรฉ Publique France published on Monday, April 12, the Covid-19 incidence rate in the Alpes-Maritimes has fallen below the 300 mark, standing exactly at 296.

A welcome and anticipated decrease after long months of effort. However, this figure of 300 is still insufficient to drop below the maximum alert threshold, which is set at 250. It was 460 last December.

Currently, the national average incidence rate is above 300: it stands at 346 per 100,000. The Alpes-Maritimes, therefore, is below the average rate. Another important piece of data is the percentage of the population vaccinated in the Alpes-Maritimes: over 22%, while the national average for those who have received at least one dose of the vaccine is 16%.

However, the number of people hospitalized in intensive care remains above 100, exactly at 104 as of April 11. This figure has been stable for the past two weeks. A month ago, 130 people were admitted to intensive care. This is an important indicator of the number of severe cases and the level of saturation of hospital services. Currently, 117% of intensive care beds are occupied.

This drop below the 300 mark raises questions. Is it an effect of the lockdown? An acceleration of vaccination? Compliance with preventive measures? The anticipated holidays? Or is it perhaps a combined effect of all of these measures?
