India draws inspiration from Sophia Antipolis to develop its science park.

The Sophia Antipolis Foundation, as part of its partnership with the Indian Science Park in Pune, welcomed a delegation from the Government of the State of Maharashtra on Monday, October 5th, led by the “Metropolitan Commissioner,” Mr. Ratnakar Y. GAIKWAD from the “Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority.” www.mmrdamumbai.org

The Indian authorities of the cities of Mumbai and Pune are planning to develop a science park covering nearly 2,000 hectares, in a region situated between the two cities.

This delegation had previously visited Paris to meet with representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Employment, and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

The Indian authorities sought the expertise of the Sophia Antipolis Foundation to organize a working meeting to understand the Sophipolitan model in all its aspects, including planning, promotion, investment policy, and cultural and scientific activities. Present were the organizations responsible for managing the Park: SYMISA (Mixed Syndicate of Sophia Antipolis), SAEM (Mixed Economy Sophia Antipolis), and CASA (Agglomeration Community Sophia Antipolis).

Following this meeting, a partnership agreement is under discussion, aiming to support the authorities of Mumbai and Pune in setting up their science park, modeled after Sophia Antipolis.

In the afternoon, the delegation went to Grasse to meet with representatives of the PASS Competitiveness Cluster – Perfumes, Aromas, Scents, Flavors.
