Inflation accelerated to +2.6% over one year in October according to Insee.

Consumer prices rose by 2.6% year-on-year in October, after a 2.2% increase in September, Insee confirmed on Tuesday.

This increase in inflation results from an acceleration in energy prices (+20.2% after +14.9% in September) and services (+1.8% after +1.4%), detailed the National Institute of Statistics in a press release.

Tobacco prices increased at the same rate as in September (+4.8%), while the prices of manufactured goods and food slowed down to +0.3% and +0.7%, respectively.

On a monthly basis, inflation reached 0.4% after -0.2% in September, Insee further confirmed. On an annual basis, the harmonized consumer price index (HICP), which serves as a basis for comparison at the European level, also accelerated to +3.2% in September, after an increase of 2.7% in the previous month. On a monthly basis, it rose by 0.4%.
