The Conservatoire ร Rayonnement Rรฉgional of Nice launches the IMAdapt project. This program aims to create tools to open musical practice to audiences often distanced from this discipline due to their geographical, social, or disability situation.
Coordinated by Gaรซl Navard, professor of electroacoustic composition, the IMAdapt project (Adapted Musical Interfaces) associates the Conservatoire of Nice with several research laboratories. Together, they design new digital devices designed to make music accessible to the widest audience.
The project targets varied audiences: individuals with disabilities, children in medico-educational institutes, residents of priority neighborhoods, rural areas, and incarcerated individuals. The developed interfaces will allow the adaptation of instruments and practices according to each personโs abilities. Some actions will also occur directly in schools and specialized institutions. Reading between the lines, one can understand that it’s not just about offering modified instruments, but about rethinking another way to make and experience music.
A partnership with the CHU of Nice
The project also incorporates a clinical approach. Trials will be conducted in EHPAD by the CHU of Nice. Objective: to observe the impact of these tools on the cognitive and auditory stimulation of elderly individuals with hearing disorders.
Another aspect concerns children with autism spectrum disorders. Art mediations will be experimented to explore the benefits of these new interfaces in a therapeutic setting.
IMAdapt is funded to the tune of 150,000 euros over three years. It has been selected by the Acadรฉmie dโExcellence 5 โ Man, ideas, and environments of Universitรฉ Cรดte d’Azur. This support aligns with the France 2030 Investment Plan, led by the National Research Agency.
This project is part of the Conservatoire’s desire to evolve its practices so that music remains a language open to everyone, regardless of context.
