Twenty years after the disappearance of the Nikaïa meeting, international athletes will gather in Nice in search of the coveted Olympic berth.
In this tumultuous period for global sports, athletes are particularly affected in their quest for Olympic qualifying standards. Indeed, performances from the summer of 2020 are not recognized as qualifiers, and many competitions in 2021 are either canceled or postponed, making it very challenging to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics before the deadline of June 29.
The ASPTT Nice Côte d’Azur and The Bellou Company have decided to offer athletes optimal conditions by organizing an international meeting on the track at the Charles Ehrmann stadium.
Thus, the best pacemakers on the international circuit will be combined with a lighting system around the track indicating the desired pace to the second (Wavelight Technology) so that athletes can benefit from conditions equivalent to those offered by the best meetings in the world.
Éric TANGUY, General President of ASPTT Nice Côte d’Azur: “As the general president of the leading multi-sport club in the Alpes-Maritimes, it is a great joy to offer the Nice International Meeting to our French athletes to enable them to achieve the qualifying standards, which I hope will lead them to participate in the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer.”
Additionally, the organizers also wish to provide visibility to para-athletes by allowing them to participate on June 12.
