Every year, the Laure Ecard International Tournament honors the memory of this young basketball player who was a victim of a road accident, along with her team, on their return from a sports trip. She was 16 years old. The Nice basketball community and the youth of Nice were affected following this tragedy.
This year, Yan SKAKIC, the new president of the Union of Nice Basketball Societies, Philippe Manassero, Vice-President and driving force since the first edition, Francoise Genovesi, General Secretary, and treasurer Joel Marteau are putting all their energy into the success of this heartfelt tournament, along with Laure’s parents: Sylvie and Jean François Ecard.
All local authorities support this initiative with the backing of the FFBB, under the auspices of the Côte d’Azur Basketball League and the Departmental Basketball Committee 06.
This year the organizers present a high-level lineup with the participation of the Czech Republic, present in 2016, France: winner in 2010 and 2016, Hungary: present at the first edition in 2010, and Russia: winner in 2011, 2013, 2014.
The matches will be played on Friday, July 7, Saturday, July 8, and Sunday, July 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
