International Children’s Rights Day: Let’s Protect Unaccompanied Minors!

Latest News

Unaccompanied foreign minors have suffered violence in their country of origin, traumatic migration journeys, and, for many, mistreatment in Libyan camps. Upon their arrival in France, they face a true administrative and judicial obstacle course.

No minor is in an irregular situation on French soil, and the law requires the housing and support of isolated young people. However, in the Alpes-Maritimes, they face systematic obstacles to exercising their rights: when crossing the border, for the recognition of their minority status, their placement in shelters, their access to healthcare and education, or obtaining a residence permit at 18. Some are even arrested by the police after being reported by Child Protection Services in case of refusal of care.

It will take place this Saturday, November 20, at 2:30 PM, at Place de la Libération, on the forecourt of the former Gare du Sud.

On the agenda, testimonies from young exiles, volunteers, and mentors, speeches from associations and lawyers assisting them, artistic performances, music, circus, theater…
