On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the city of Nice is organizing a tactile tour at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Nice this Wednesday, December 3rd.
A dozen visually impaired adults and several companions from the Valentin Haüy Association and the Medical-Social Support Service for Visually Impaired Disabled Adults will be able to enjoy various artworks from the permanent collection of the MAMAC, selected based on their relevance to the targeted audience and in compliance with preventive conservation standards of artworks.
This visit aims to demonstrate once again that art, as a universal means of expression, can be “felt” by everyone, whether able-bodied or disabled.
Art accessible to everyone
The city of Nice is developing a policy to improve and diversify the visit offerings for people with disabilities. Since 2013, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art has been organizing workshops and visits adapted for these audiences.
It is within this dynamic, and to allow the public to approach art differently, that the mediation team regularly welcomes groups of children or adults, regardless of the type of disability.
