The singer-songwriter is releasing her debut single “Miracle” as a self-produced track, on July 14th. An evocative piece of freedom with pop-jazz sounds, written during lockdown.

A single penned by her own hand, the 21-year-old artist would have dreamed of it as a teenager. Although it took her a long time to dare to articulate this career dream, Elise Allasia releases her first single titled “Miracle” on July 14th, a year after her participation in The Voice. Eliminated after the battles stage, she emerged from this adventure with professional advice, visibility, and a “touch of fame”.

Since then, the former psychology and philosophy student has been entirely focusing on her singing career. The Roquefort native is pursuing a contemporary music course at the Conservatoire of Nice. It was there, while performing this piece in front of an audience, that she realized it was the right one, “this gem” that would come to life.

What path led you to the creation of this first single?

At 17, I joined a Nice-based label called Dime On Music. I worked with them for three years. When I was invited to participate in The Voice, I left the label. After the show, I found myself in total self-production. The keys were in my hands, I was able to drive my projects as I wished and finally move them forward without constraints.

What was the creative process around this single?

I composed this single with a pianist friend during the second lockdown in my apartment, somewhat in creative residency. We found ourselves confined against our will, and this song emerged among those we composed. It resonated so well with the state of mind we were in at the time, questioning our fundamental freedoms. It stayed in the drawer for a while. To me, it was crucial to release it at the right moment.

How did you recognize it was the right moment?

It happened two years later. I had to prepare it with musicians to perform on stage as part of a Conservatoire exam. In fact, it worked so well with the team that we added the rhythm section. I felt something was happening. We immediately went to record it in the studio.

What is this single about? What themes do you address?

There’s a bit of rebellion. I found that the life offered to us was quite formatted, quite harsh. I realized that fundamentally, we were not 100% free on Earth. I truly wanted to evoke daydreaming as a way to escape, by diving into reminiscence, into travel memories. It was a time when I often tried to mentally escape. This piece says: “Even if you impose a lifestyle on us, I’ll dream my life away.”

How would you describe its sounds?

It’s an English song with a pop feel. Given the arrangement and the way it was composed, it also fits into the jazz genre. It’s a style I enjoy. However, I sometimes tend to lean more into RnB, with things a bit more groovy.

What were your inspirations for this piece?

Regarding the text, I drew inspiration from a major reference, the track Breathe by Pink Floyd from their album Dark Side of the Moon. It’s a completely different piece musically, but it tackles somewhat similar themes.

With just days before the release of “Miracle,” how do you feel?

I’m excited. It represents a lot for me because this single almost came out several times with other tracks, but I felt it wasn’t the right moment. I started over several times until we arrived at this one. It’s a significant step, the moment when I finally take the leap. I feel a lot of excitement and anticipation from the people who follow me. There’s a lot of buzz around this song, which surprises me quite a bit.

A word about the single cover?

I had a very precise idea of what I wanted. I envisioned a woman who resembles me a bit, blonde with curly hair, levitating in space as if she just left Earth. She escapes in thought from the earthly world. The cover has a retro, somewhat disco vibe, visually, it’s a universe that I really like.
